No forced returns to Iraq

The International Federation of Iraqi Refugees in Britain (IFIR) is organising a series of demonstrations to protest against the deportation of Iraqi asylum seekers.

The Protestors outside the Home Office, 27 September 2002 Home Office has announced plans to begin deportations to Baghdad shortly, but Iraqi asylum seekers in the UK believe that the country remains unsafe - a view shared by the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR). Demonstrations are being held in Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester and there will be a national protest outside the Home Office in London:

  • Stoke-on-Trent, Saturday 3 April 2004, 9.00am-12.00pm, Hanley Centre (Opposite Argos), Stoke-on-Trent.
  • Manchester, Sunday 4 April 2004, 2.00pm to 5.00pm, Manchester Peace Gardens
  • London, Thursday 8 April 2004, 5.00pm-7.00pm, outside Home Office, 50 Queen Anne's Gate, London SW1. Nearest tube station: St James' Park.

IFIR is also hosting two campaign planning meetings:

  • Hull, Saturday 3 April 2004, 12.00pm-4.00pm, Friends Meeting House, 4 Percy Street, Hull HU2 8HH
  • Manchester,Thursday 8 April 2004, 7.30pm-9.00pm, Friends Meeting House, Mount Street (Behind Central Library), Manchester
