EVENT

Young people and community cohesion

5 May 2004

The National Youth Agency will be launching a new good practice guide and CDROM - Justice, Equality, Our World: Supporting young people's role in strengthening communities - for those working on community cohesion with young people, at a free event in east London.

This event will be an opportunity to bring to life the key messages from the publication, with performances by young people from Newham Youth Parliament, and keynote speakers including stand-up comedian Shazia Mirza.

  • 10.00am-2.00 pm, Wednesday 5 May 2004.
  • Newham Town Hall, Barking Rd, East Ham, London E6 2RP.

Justice, Equality, Our World promotes a definition of community cohesion based on justice and equality, and brings together the lessons learned in supporting young people's active involvement in building stronger communities. The publication argues that young people should be at the centre of decision-making on the issues that affect their lives. There is evidence from around the country that young people's active involvement in strengthening communities is being supported - but it is by no means a universal picture.

The launch event will be of interest to workers and volunteers from the community and voluntary sectors who work with young people, local authority youth service staff, staff supporting young people's active involvement in strengthening communities, and Connexions staff.
