Family and friends demonstrate outside Plumstead police station

On Saturday 1 April, over 200 people gathered for a demonstration outside Plumstead police station in south-east London, to protest against the death of Nuur Saeed, a young Somali who died during a police raid.

On 24 January 2006, 22-year-old Nuur Saeed died in hospital from head injuries. He had been found on the ground below a second floor flat in Woolwich that was raided on 10 January by police investigating the murder of police officer Sharon Beshennivsky. The demonstration by the family and friends of Nuur at Plumstead came the day after the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) showed Nuur's family CCTV footage of Nuur on the balcony of the flat. Nuur's family is calling for the officers involved in the raid to be suspended and for the IPCC to be more open with them about the information they already have.
