After many years of hard work and lobbying, the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has finally announced that the month of June will be Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month. This will be an annual event.
In order to mark this momentous occasion, the Irish Traveller Movement in Britain (ITMB) a national charity that works to raise the social inclusion of Irish Travellers, will host a special two-day symposium 'Pavee Céilidh' to celebrate the richness and diversity of Irish Traveller history and culture. Day one will be an indoor fair, accompanied by music song and dance into the evening; day two will have a policy focus to discuss and debate the historical and continued social exclusion of Travellers, and find out about the current policy issues. The event will take place on 26 and 27 June at the Hammersmith Irish Cultural Centre, Blacks Road, London.
This is a FREE event. For further information, contact the Irish Traveller Movement in Britain, tel 020 7607 2002, or email: info@irishtraveller.org.uk.
