IRR film at National Film Theatre

A screening of two of the IRR's films which chart the milestones in Black people's fight for justice.

Screening:

  • From you were black, you were out shows community resistance and the emergence of a number of 'Black Power' organisations in 1950s Ladbroke Grove.
  • A town under siege focuses on how Southall organised to resist racist and fascist attacks between 1976 and 1981.

Speaker:

  • Colin Prescod - Film's Director and Chairman, Institute of Race Relations
The films form part of a four part series 'Struggles for Black Community', now available for the first time on DVD from the IRR (see link below). They were made by Colin Prescod for Channel 4 at the beginning of the 1980s.
