7th memorial of the death of Mikey Powell

Two events in memory of Mikey Powell who died after being restrained by West Midlands police officers from Thornhill Road police station on 7 September 2003.

The Friends of Mikey Powell Campaign for Justice was established by the family of Michael Lloyd Powell (known as Mikey), a cousin of the renowned poet and writer, Benjamin Zephaniah, following his death in police custody. Mikey was 38-years-old and a father of three young children. He had suffered several short episodes of mental illness from which he had recovered, an episode occurred on 7 September 2003.
