in Burgenland after frontier police car pursuit. FP 15 March Sharif Hussein Ahmed, destitute Somalian
refugee, commits suicide by hanging himself from a tree in the Human
Rights Square, Graz. S 29 September Hungarian youth, 18, commits suicide in
detention centre after being caught attempting illegal border entry. S BELGIUM 22 September Semira Adamu, Nigerian asylum-seeker,
20, suffocates after being restrained with a pillow during sixth attempt
to deport her. IP 31 October John Madu, rejected Nigerian asylum-seeker,
collapses at a railway station in Liège and dies of internal
bleeding. He had been refused medical treatment. IN BULGARIA 2 March Unnamed Romanian, 25, dies of bullet wounds
following a police check at the Bulgarian border with Greece. FP 15 May Metodi Rainov, Roma boy, 15, dies after
being thrown out of the second floor window of an abandoned building
in central Sofia. RF May Kolyo Todorov, Rom, shot dead by a police
officer in Plodiv. P 20 June Yordan Assenov Yankov, Rom, shot dead
by police officer in the Ovcha Kupel neighbourhood of Sofia. P CZECH REPUBLIC 15 February Helena Bihariova, Roma, 26, drowns after
skinheads throw her in the river Elbe. RF 17 May Milan Lacko, Roma, 40, killed by gang
in north eastern Moravian town of Orlova. RF FRANCE 7 January David Dumont, white, and Gustave Kokou,
black, shot dead in the village of Mortefontaine-en-Thalle in Oise by
youth connected to neo-nazi scene. RF 17 August Albanian undocumented worker killed by
French customs police in disputed circumstances after being discovered
without identity papers on board train travelling from Belgium to Italy. FP 13 December Habib Muhammed, 17, French youth of Arab
origin, shot dead by police in Toulouse. P GERMANY 5 January Turkish-Kurdish rejected asylum-seeker
dies after setting himself alight in Wesel Nordrhein-Westfalen. S 28 February Following deportation from Germany, Kosovo-Albanian
asylum-seekers Muhamet Islami Gjeli, 70 and his son Naser Islami Gjeli,
37, are killed when Serbian forces attack the Likosham village killing
fourteen people. DD February/March Following deportation from Germany, Kosovo-Albanian
asylum-seeker Bequir Sejdiu, 36, killed in village of Quirez by Serbian
security forces. DD 2 May Moroccan asylum-seeker, 22, commits suicide
in Bavarian detention centre where he had been held for two years. S 1 June Hasan Akdag, Turkish Kurd, 21, commits
suicide by setting himself alight in detention centre in Lingen, Hanover. S 1 July Haydar Findik, Turkish Kurd,26, living
in asylum centre in Altenburg dies after being denied medical treatment
for tonsillitis. IN 25 July Mehmet K, Turkish Kurd, 24, dies of anxiety
psychosis after being rushed from a reception centre to hospital. IN 6 October Daniel Kassa Mehari, 32, commits suicide
by jumping in front of a train outside Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt. IN 14 November Harinder Singh Cheena, Sikh from the Punjab,
16, awaiting deportation, hangs himself in youth remand centre in Halle,
Sachsen Anhalt. S GREECE 20 October Irini P, Belarus national forced into
prostitution, commits suicide in Thessalonika. S HUNGARY 14 January Arpád Balogh, Roma, shot dead by
gamekeeper in the village of Tunyogmatolcs, Szabolcs - Szatmár-Bereg
County. RF 20 October Nicolae Gheorghe, Roma, dies in Budila,
Brasov county, four hours after having been carried out of a police
station unconscious. P ITALY January Vasyl Balakin, undocumented worker from
the Ukraine, hangs himself from the second floor of scaffolding outside
Trieste city hall after being served with expulsion order. S March Ethiopian maid, 47, working in the home
of an Italian film-maker, and fearing her residence permit will not
be renewed, commits suicide by throwing herself out of a second floor
window. S August Saber Abdelh, Moroccan undocumented worker,
dies in disputed circumstances in Sicilian reception centre. IN NETHERLANDS February Unnamed Armenian woman of Jized Kurdish
origin, 50, commits suicide after application for asylum rejected twice. S 4 April Algerian, named only as Samir, shot dead
by police in asylum centre in Nijmegen, Arnhem in disputed circumstances. P 14 May Unnamed Sudanese asylum-seeker falls through
a fourth floor window of a detention centre in Breda. IN 16 May Karim Hassan, Palestinian, hangs himself
in Nieuwersluis after being held for 8 months in detention. S ND Unnamed African woman, 35, dies of AIDS-related
illnesses after being denied combination therapy. IN SPAIN 2 December Julianne Danielle, 7-month pregnant Nigerian,
commits suicide in detention in Ceuta. S 8 December Aitor Zableta, Basque, 28, stabbed to
death in Madrid by far-Right football supporters. RF UNITED KINGDOM 6 January Rafique Khan, 59, stabbed to death by
white youth in Plumstead, south east London. RF 13 February Imran Khan, 15, stabbed to death in Glasgow. RF Easter Edgar Fernandes, UK citizen of Asian descent,
murdered for his passport while holidaying in Turkey. HT 1 April Christopher Alder, Afro-Caribbean,37,
dies in the custody of Hull police. P 29 April Akofa Hodasi, 24, found hanged in children's
playground in Surrey, three days after being the victim of a racist
attack. RF--S 30 September Remi Surage, 56, stabbed in the back in an unprovoked attack in Orpington,
Kent. RF December Lin Yan-Guang, Chinese asylum-seeker,
commits suicide in Warley hospital, Brentwood, Essex. RF
