Germany

German People's Union (DVU)

Led by Gerhard Frey

Did not contest the September 2002 general election

Classified by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution as an openly far-Right and anti-Semitic organisation, the DVU is the most openly approving of fascism of all the European far-Right parties under review here. Financed by its leader, the multimillionaire Munich publisher of far-Right materials, Gerhard Frey, the DVU openly calls for 'Work only for Germans' and 'Foreign criminals out'. In municipal elections in Bremerhaven in September 2003, the DVU polled 8.4% (an increase of 2.1%) which gives it four seats in the council assmebly.

Republikaner (REP)

Led by Rolf Schlierer

Under 2 per cent in the 2002 general election

Hard-core extreme-Right party, based in Bavaria, which has not managed to recapture the electoral successes it enjoyed in the early 1990s.

In 1996, the REP was represented in the Baden Württemburg state parliament and, in the past, it has also been represented in Bavaria at a municipal level. In October 1999 council elections, the REP won seats in one third of Berlin's boroughs.
