Sudanese asylum-seekers deported

By Liz Fekete

1 December 1996

Two Sudanese asylum-seekers have been deported from Hungary to Syria, and then on to the Sudan, despite the urgent protestations of Amnesty International (AI).

AI has criticised the authorities for refusing to protect Anthony Zakaria Laki and Samuel Lado Zakaria, and called on Hungary to remove its geographical limitation to the 1951 convention relating to the status of refugees and to afford protection to refugees from regions outside Europe.
