Sex industry dominated by migrant workers

By Liz Fekete

1 December 1996

According to lieutenant colonel Akos Borai of the Hungarian national police, a third of prostitutes working in clubs, massage parlours and other indoor venues in Budapest are foreigners, mainly from countries east of Europe.

A conference organised by the International Organisation for Migration, to discuss international trafficking in women, heard how the sex industry is 'increasingly dominated by migrant prostitutes who have absolutely no rights to even be living in these countries, let alone be prostitutes'.
