Treaty establishes Hungarian minority rights

Romania has guaranteed a range of rights to its large Hungarian minority in a bilateral treaty under which Hungary renounces any claim to Transylvania.

But representatives of the Hungarian minority have criticised the treaty as 'lacking in substance' and claims the only alternative to successive policies of assimilation are extensive autonomy in the regions where Hungarians constitute a majority.
