The Hungarians armed with pitchforks, axes and baseball bats attempted to expel the Roma from the village and set light to their shacks. Troops arrived to stop the attack and the mayor ruled that the four Romani families should be moved to another village. But the residents of the new village threatened to take the law into their own hands and get rid of the Roma. Ultimately, the Romani families were sent back to Betesti.
