Romania promises repatriation, after Roma exodus

In September, after the Swiss authorities announced that 400 Roma asylum seekers from Romania had arrived in the country over a two week period, the Romanian foreign ministry promised to 'find rapid ways to resolve the crisis by repatriating Romanian citizens'.

Many of the Roma had crossed fields, while others had arrived in Switzerland in trucks or buses from France or Austria for which they had paid up to US$500.
