By Liz Fekete

1 March 1997

According to the European Roma Rights Centre, Roma living in the Transcarpathian region, are vulnerable to police harassment and even torture.

Armed raids are habitually carried out by the Uzhgorod district police. In addition to shootings, Roma at Ruskije Komarovtzi report group arrests, beatings for confessions, forced labour and an episode of sexual violence by the police.
