British Airways routinely photocopied black people's passports

By Liz Fekete

1 December 1996

A black British family, backed by the Commission for Racial Equality, have received an out-of-court settlement from British Airways after an air stewardess photocopied their passports as they were about to board a flight from Birmingham to the United States.

It has since emerged that BA routinely copies the passports of all black passengers travelling to the US, claiming it is a measure that the US demands. BA claims it has now stopped the practice.
