Compact disc manufacturer withdraws racist title

By Liz Fekete

1 December 1996

One of Britain's largest compact disc manufacturers, Nimbus Manufacturing UK, based near Cardiff, has been forced to withdraw one of its titles after complaints about its racist content.

The CD, 'Barbecue in Rostock', by the neo-nazi band No Remorse, contains lyrics which advocate the murder of Jews and blacks. Almost every track carries gloating references to the Holocaust.

Initially the company refused to ban the title but subsequently bowed to pressure after the anti-fascist magazine, Searchlight, acting on legal advice, advised them that as the manufacturer it could be found guilty of a criminal offence under the Public Order Act.

The disc has already sold more than 10000 copies and No Remorse have played in Germany five times since its release.
