- deaths in police, prison and hospital custody
- racial violence
- self-harm and suicides of asylum seekers

Europe
New forms of racism are emerging in Europe and the IRR's research focuses on the most virulent aspects of this, particularly xeno-racism and Islamophobia. This research appears in the IRR's quarterly European Race Bulletin which includes the following subjects:
- national security legislation, religious profiling and the criminalisation of Muslims
- race relations policies and the 'integration debate'
- the influence of anti-immigration movements on the political process
- asylum policies, deportation and the erosion of human rights
- popular racism and racial violence
